Introduction

Nowadays, service and production companies are increasingly dependent on the function and high availability of their EDP systems. The failure of such systems automatically leads to an interruption in operations and therefore involves high follow-up costs. Therefore, special attention must be paid to effective fire protection. Very often it is not only the fire but also the smoke gases which cause damage by settling on the components With GRLS 2020 V1.1 you have acquired an ideal protection for your equipment cabinets. Fires will be already extinguished in the first critical moments of their occurrence, follow-updamage is prevented to a wide extend. The space required for the standard version is low (only 3U) and it is available as an IN - or ON -cabinet version. In the case of cabinets to be newly equipped, GRLS 2020 V1.1 is planned as an IN-Cabinet unit; the ON-Cabinet version can also be easily retrofitted to existing and operational systems. The system works fully independently. In addition to detection, extinguishing control and the extinguishing cylinder with the nozzle system, it also contains the power supply (incl. emergency supply). GRLS 2020 V1.1 is quick and easy to install and very quickly ready for use. The standard version of GRLS 2020 V1.1 is described in this manual. If you are looking for a special solution to meet your particular requirements, our team will be pleased to help you. Please contact us for further information

2.1 Subsystems of GRLS 2020 V1.1
2.1.1 Controller PCB

Display and Command PCB

The Controller PCB is the heart of the system. This controls and executes the complete running of the unit. The CU ensures seamless working with the inputs from external interfaces, power supply and user interfaces. The Controller PCB is connected to the Display Unit (DU) as a signal interface through cables and connectors. (The picture above indicates the approximate layout of the Controller PCB board.)

2.1.2 Power Unit (PU)
Image

The Power Unit (PU) is the energy supplier to keep the CU & rest of the system working. The PU consists of a power supply unit &AC-DC converter board and 2 no's of 12V, 7 Ah sealed lead-acid batteries. The batteries are constantly kept charged and ready for use in case of a mains power failure. The system can keep protection ready running for24hrs on battery system.

The Extinguishing unit (EU) consists of a PESO/CCO approved Cylinder of appropriate size, filled with pressurized clean agent (per customer need) of the requisite quantity per NFPA need attending to an Alarm state. The cylinder is capped with a Valve connected to solenoid used for activation of the release. The valve is further connected through discharge hose / tubes leading to the discharge ports.

2.1.4 Enclosures

The enclosure houses the components of the system. The enclosure allows the system to be working as a single unit. The enclosure has provisions to be mounted in a cabinet /rack. The picture above shows the various components and their layout inside the enclosure.

The system consists of fire detection (Detector 1 and 2) with the appropriate control unit, the power and emergency backup and the extinguishing unit. If a fire is detected by the smoke detectors, extinguishing will discharge when the pre-discharge time has elapsed with no manual intervention during the count-down time. The extinguishing unit (EU) consists of the extinguishing cylinder with a valve Solenoid actuator, Gauge / pressure switch (optional), Discharge piping and the discharge / nozzle system. In the case of the IN-Cabinet version, the smoke detectors and the extinguishing discharge / nozzle ports are integrated at the rear of the system. In the case of the ON / Multi cabinet version, the smoke detectors and the nozzles are installed in the rear ceiling area of the 19" cabinet to be protected. The extinguishing unit for these systems shall be mounted external to the Rack that is being protected. All operation, alarm and fault indications are displayed on the front panel so that they are easily visible. This panel also accommodates the control elements as Key switch, Abort, Manual Release and Reset buttons for the system. The Input mains connections and the connections for the external enunciators and inputs are located at the rear.

The top view of the opened GRLS 2020 V1.1 system shows the extinguishing cylinder valve and its connection to the nozzle system. The valve of the cylinder is equipped with a pressure switch / gauge capability. If the system is provided with a Pressure. The battery serves as an emergency power supply if the 230 V mains fail. All displays are shown on the front (display) but an alarm can also be transmitted to a continuously manned room. Connection for relay off ault information is made via the terminal blocks at the rear of the GRLS 2020 V1.1 System.

Note: Battery JUMPER J1 & J2 must be connected with each other for normal battery backup and battery recharge. Door Contact: The door contact prevents discharge of extinguishing if the door of the cabinet is open. If the door is, open it is not possible to attain the design concentration of the extinguishing inside the cabinet. Furthermore, the likelihood of false alarms is higher if the door is open (e.g. electrical /welding/soldering work near cabinet). The door contact must be pressed if the door is closed and has to relax automatically if the door is opened. The EU shall not operate if the door is open. The door contact as provided at the rear end of panel is a NC contact when door closed. It will provide an open / NO contact when the door is open.

2.2.3 Functional description for 1st Alarm, 2nd Alarm and Discharge Multi-Sensor detectors that work according to the scattered light principle & temperature sensing, are used in the GRLS 2020 V1.1 system. An alarm condition is detected within a few seconds depending on the density of the smoke/heat in the cabinet. Discharge of extinguishing is not triggered until both detectors detect an alarm condition(coincidence detection/cross zoning). If one of the two detectors detects alarm condition in the cabinet, a signal is transmitted to the control unit. The alarm is triggered, the corresponding red LED lights and the internal buzzer& hooter is activated. If the second detector detects additionally the alarm, the main alarm is triggered & hooter resounds. The corresponding red LED lights. . After the pre-warning period the extinguishing is discharged. The pre-warningperiod can be set from 01 to 120 seconds Accordingly the valve of the extinguishing gas container is opened and the cabinet is flooded. A concentration capable of extinguishing a fire is built up in the 19" cabinet within10 seconds.

2.3 Operation

The operating status of the GRLS 2020 V1.1 extinguishing system can be seen or Controlled or changed on the front panel using the display key and switch elements. The conditions DISABLE, ENABLE and EVACUATE can be selected via the key switch. In the 'DISABLE' position only Reset Button can be used rest buttons will not work. At ENABLE position all button will work and at EVACUATE position external Sounder will sound. Manual “Release” push Button as provided with the panel is covered by a protector. This is to prevent any accidental press of the same, which will result in unwanted discharge. User needs to lift the cover to press the switch. It is recommended to press the switch for at least 1second to ensure complete discharge of the agent in the cylinder. This is operational in any mode and if timer is enabled in manual mode gas will discharge after set time.
